Pet ambulance keeping Glasgow safe

Christmas is a time of celebration and merriment, but it can also be harmful for your pet with many Christmas festivities being the source of possible illness, from the ingestion of poisonous festive plants such as Holly and Mistletoe to an over excited puppy or kitten chewing through the Christmas tree lights.

For these reasons the team at PAWSS emergency pet ambulance are gearing themselves up for a busy time over the festive period. Leigh Daly from PAWSS said, “Christmas is a busy time for everyone and a time when we all enjoy a few glasses of festive spirit. However it’s also a particularly dangerous time for our pets with lots of tempting tip-bits which could be potential fatal within easy reach. This combination can cause loving pet owners a huge dilemma.

“If their pet needs to see a vet in an emergency they have to ensure they can transport them to the clinic safely, and legally. The general public are very well educated on the consequences of drinking and driving. By having the ambulance service on hand owners can feel comfortable in the knowledge that even if they have had a glass of wine they will always be able to get their pet to the vets should an emergency occur.”

She continued, “It’s not only the issues of drinking and driving that make the pet ambulance an attractive option. As the cold weather takes hold many people are not so keen to drive on icy roads late at night or early in the morning, so again by having the ambulance on hand they know their pet will always be able to get to the vets safely. And also, very importantly, as the ambulance is staffed by experienced veterinary nurses in an emergency pets can get immediate medical attention”

Since the pet ambulance service began in September 2005 it’s popularity has been steadily growing and it’s specialised equipment on board has literally saved lives. Indeed one dog in a very serious state may not have made it to the Vets Now emergency clinic had it not been for the fact that the ambulance had an oxygen tent giving the dog immediate care.
